Dark Star Orchestra BIO

Formed in Chicago in 1997, Dark Star Orchestra was created to keep the Grateful Dead's music alive after Jerry Garcia's death. Rather than relying on a fixed greatest-hits set, the band researches and recreates a complete Grateful Dead setlist from a specific historical performance. The source show is revealed after the concert, making each night distinct for longtime Deadheads and newcomers alike.

With more than 2,300 performances, the group has built a reputation as one of America's most active touring bands. Its repertoire can span songs such as “Dark Star,” “Bird Song,” “Franklin's Tower,” “China Cat Sunflower” and “Help on the Way,” though the setlist for this date has not been announced. The supplied tour information identifies the run as the Dark Star Orchestra 2026 Tour; no opening act is specified for the Fort Lauderdale show.

Expect a two-set concert format with an encore, in the Grateful Dead tradition. The band's extended performances, improvisational material and psychedelic stage presentation suit the auditorium setting, while the multigenerational Deadhead crowd often brings colorful attire and plenty of dancing. In Fort Lauderdale, the December date offers a chance to experience this long-running tribute and continuation act in the city's downtown-area concert venue.
